Netflix is removing Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy’s excellent British spy thriller next month

Netflix is removing an acclaimed British spy thriller with a big-name cast next month.

The 2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is based on John le Carré’s 1974 novel of the same name, and features a who’s who of British acting talent.

Gary Oldman leads the film, while Toby Jones, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Stephen Graham, the late Roger Lloyd-Pack and Kathy Burke play supporting characters.

The film will be leaving Netflix on Sunday, 6 July. However, Prime Video also currently carries the film, and at the time of writing there are no plans for it be removed from the platform.

The film also aired on BBC Two back in April, but it was only available on BBC iPlayer for a handful of weeks.

The official longline for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy reads: “Called back into service to uncover the identity of a Soviet mole at the height of the Cold War, retired British intelligence operative George Smiley (Oldman) is tasked with unwinding a vastly convoluted web of conspiracy, codenames, double agents, and deceit.”

Obviously, this film isn’t Oldman’s only flirtation with the spy genre, as he has been starring in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses since 2022.

A fifth season is on the way, with the streamer confirming recently that Jackson Lamb and his team of not-so-super spies will be back on our screens in late September, with episodes set to drop weekly.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is available to stream on Netflix until Sunday, 6 July. It is also available to watch for Prime Video subscribers.
