Spider-Man: Brand New Day has gotten an exciting update, with filming due to get underway in the coming months.

Tom Holland is due to reprise his role as the web-slinging superhero in the fourth instalment since the series‘ move to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the action following on from 2021’s No Way Home.

After a release date and title were confirmed earlier this year, Brand New Day has taken another step in the right direction after The Herald reported that filming would begin in Glasgow, Scotland in August. Furthermore, ScreenDaily has reported that pre-production is underway at Pinewood Studios.

The developments echo comments that were previously made by Holland, who said in October that he couldn’t “wait” to begin filming the “super exciting” project in the summer of 2025, with the star adding that “everything [was] good to go”.

The upcoming film has undergone some changes behind the scenes, with Destin Daniel Cretton replacing Jon Watts in the director’s chair. There’s also some additions to the cast, with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas joining Holland and co.

Though plot specifics are yet to be confirmed, Holland has teased aspects of the story, sharing that the idea was “crazy” and a “little different” to anything that had come previously, adding that fans would “really respond to it”.

The actor previously confirmed that he had read the script alongside co-star and real-life partner Zendaya, remarking that the screenwriters were doing a “good job” and that the subject matter had “lit a fire” in the pair as they “bounced around the living room”.

While Holland and Zendaya are enthusiastic at the project, Andrew Garfield recently shared that he would be open to reprising his role as the superhero following his role in No Way Home, though he did admit it would have to be for a “weird” project.

“I really love playing Spider-Man,” said the actor. “I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird [and] strange. I would want to do something very unique, offbeat and surprising [with] creative freedom.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Home is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 31 July, 2026.
