Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian-paced episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away has confirmed another new character in the aftermath of Eliza Sherwood’s exit.

The troubled teenager left Summer Bay with a bang after a dramatic showdown with her foster mother Roo Stewart. Roo was heartbroken to learn that Eliza had chosen not to help Alf when he was suffering from chest pains.

Piecing the disturbing behaviour together, Roo finally realised Eliza was dangerous and she was taken out of the Stewarts’ care to receive psychiatric help. Though Roo remained optimistic Eliza could return, Alf insisted she give up foster caring altogether, causing a clash between father and daughter.

Upcoming Australian-paced episodes will see Roo standing firm in her decision as she takes on another child in need.

Sergeant David Langham is called to a scene involving a homeless woman called Samantha, who has been living in a tent with her son Cohen.

When the police search Samantha’s car, they discover a box full of stolen mobile phones and place her under arrest. As they take Cohen back to the station, they learn that he and his mum have been without a home for a while.

“He’s very scared,” Nathan Murray, who plays Cohen, told TV Week. “The police are taking away the only person he has. She was doing everything for him, so he’s also worried, confused and angry.

“He doesn’t understand that what she did was wrong – his mum has been protecting Cohen a lot and this has become a normal way of living and getting by.”

While Samantha is in custody, David arranges alternative care for the boy. Cohen’s new foster carer is Roo.

“Cohen doesn’t want to trust anyone because of what happened to his mother, so he doesn’t trust Roo filling that spot,” Murray explained. “He’s completely destroyed realising he and his mum will be apart for a long time.”

Cohen keeps his distance from his new carer, while Roo, remembering her recent troubles with Eliza, also feels unsure of herself. Will the pair be able to find some common ground?

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first-look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.
