Netflix has added a highly-acclaimed revenge thriller for a weekend watch.
Yesterday, the streaming service added 2023’s The Wrath of Becky to its list of films, but why is it worth watching?
Starring The Fall of the House of Usher and Annabelle: Creation‘s Lulu Wilson and American Pie and Ice Age‘s Seann William Scott, the film is a sequel to 2020’s Becky.
Following her run in with some Neo-Nazis in the first film, the sequel sees our titular protagonist and her dog Diego living off-grid and settling back into a relatively stable existence.
However, her peace is shattered when she runs foul of some extremists named the Noble Men, who attack her new home and dognap Diego.
She sets out to get her pet back, and exact some bloody revenge in the process.

The film has a very strong 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 56 reviews.
The common consensus is that the blend of violence and dark comedy makes for a simple yet entertaining ride, with plenty of praise for Wilson’s performance.
Here’s what some of the critics have said:
“There’s a charming simplicity to a genre film that can be introduced as ‘Let’s just kill some fascists!’ and [directors Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote] know how to pace and deliver this kind of gut punch of a movie. I was hoping the film might expand a little bit in the final act – it’s a single setting piece – but it’s never boring. It gets in, gets the job done, and gets out. And it helps that Wilson has improved as an actress.”
“The Wrath of Becky more than makes a case for itself as a worthy successor to the wonderfully wild 2020 movie. It’s as entertaining as it is thought-provoking, loaded with laughs and shockingly gory set-pieces.”
“Angel and Coote embrace the silliness of the concept through over-the-top action-horror violence, absurd interactions, and a protagonist far more at home with her unrestrained anger. It’s the latter that’s most infectious this round; Wilson seems to be having a blast showing off the playful side of her young killer.”
The Wrath of Becky is available to stream now on Netflix. The first film can be streamed on Prime Video and Shudder.
